Down River and The Bluff''s Hackers
Hacker's Happenings 2025
In an effort to cut down on the congestion and wait time on the first tee, we are encouraging players to set up their own foursomes and get tee times earlier than the 11:30 start time...they will still be included in the CTPs, points, and snakes...I have made provisions at the pro shope to get your "Hackers Score Card". You may still play at the 11:30 time if you so choose.
4-18 Today was the first day of the Hacker's 2025 season and 24 guys hit the course. The course was in great shape considering the harsh winter...greens were really good. The other plus was the weather...for mid April the temps were up into the low to middle 70's and of course the beer was really cold.
5-23 No, we haven't disbanded the Hackers. The problem is RAIN...the last time we played as a group was May 12. The next day the rains came and by Thursday (15th) the course was flooded--#6 was under water. Things did dry out somewhat, but we were pre-empted on Monday (19th) by the Young at Heart tournament and then the rains came again...the course has been closed until this morning when they opened (during a downpour) to cart paths only and no handicap flags. Our next outing is scheduled for Monday 26th (Memorial Day)....hoping to get to play!
5-30 We ended the month of May in the rain. We had 16 guys turn up to try to get in ahead of the rain but only the early groups made it. The course was extremely wet and muddy but we did play both the CTPs (#2 and #5)...Walt Stolarski won both by default...no one it #2. We all are hoping for a warm, sunny, and DRY June .
6-11 The RAIN and wet course conditions continue!! Two nights ago Down River got almost 3 inches of rain and that was after a weekend of almost constant rain. Today is beautiful with sunny skies and warm temps but the course is extremely wet and cart paths only for the entire course. Despite this, we had 16 players who could not stand to sit in the house for another day and came out to play...but no Hacker's games. This weekend is the Invitational Tournament so the course is closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We are all hoping for a dry day on Monday.
10-14 Sorry for the lack of updates but it has been an interesting season. The rains mentioned above, continued thru June and much of July. We experienced off and on flooding, soaked fairways, and course closing. In fact, during the month of June we only had 4 rounds that were recorded and 7 rounds in July. Things started to dry out the end of July and here are some of the notable notes. Walter Beatty (80 yrs of age) went on a run in August recording 7 rounds in the 70's. Gene Decker shot 68 on Sept 10, Duane Morgret shot 72 (his personal best) on Sept 29, and Carrie Corle (our lone female Hacker) beat a field of 23 to win points on Oct 3.
Yesterday, Oct 13, instead of our regular games, we played a 4 man scramble. Despite the cold, windy, and light misty rain weather, we had 32 players show up and finish their rounds. Afterwards our yearly end of the season picnic dinner was held at the club with about 50 people attending. The results of the scramble and some photo's follow--

Beach Evans Morgret May Cottle Smith Kerry Howie
Roose Beatty Carrie Houck Black Detwiler Stolarski Hoover
Cober Henry Baughman Blake Mick Logue Oliver Harold

10-22 All good things must come to an end it seems. Rita and I are getting
ready to go to Florida and the weather is starting to turn here. Some of the
guys continue to play...doesn't seem to matter the conditions as you can see
from the photo on the right. This will be my last post til spring rolls around.
