The Bluffs Happenins’
11-7-23 Rita and I have returned to Florida and Tuesday was the first outing for the Florida Hackers (even though the “locals” have been playing all summer). The big news was Hap was able to play 9 holes despite the heat.
11-14-23 It was a rainy daily at the Bluff’s…everyone got soaked!! Hap made the news again… played the entire 18 holes and won points at +10. It’s the first time in over a year that he as been able to play a whole round.
11-21-23 It was a beautiful Florida day…sunny and warm..But what made it extra special was that Eddie Over drove up from Babcock Ranch to join us.
12-02-23 Due to a tournament at The Bluffs we played the Arcadia
Municipal Golf Course. I will have to admit that the course has
come along way including the club house (which was destroyed
by hurricane Ian). We had an enjoyable day both on the course
and at their beer table. It should be noted that although we
played points, they were NOT recorded into the spreadsheet.
12-5-23 Rita and I will be traveling back to PA for the holidays so there will be no entries made for the rest of the month of December. We will return on Dec 30th and will be keeping records beginning on Jan 2 2024
1-2-24 Ritie and I returned to sunny and warm (??) Florida Dec. 30 and today was our first outing of the new year. The weather could have been a tad warmer but it was still a shorts and short sleeves kind of day…well for the most part.
1-6-24 We had a 7:42 tee time this morning and with the help of our great weather guesser we decided to cancel. Thanks Mark for your insight…they closed the course at 9:39…BIG RAIN!!!
1-9-24 We discovered today that golf is not so much fun playing in 40+ mph winds. We only played 9 holes but did enjoy the Lime Tequila afterwards.
1-13-24 Damn El Nino…lots of rain in SWF this season. The Bluffs (along with most of the other courses in the area) are closed this morning due to rain and flooding. Getting tired of sitting inside and drinking!!
1-21-24 I hate to report this but there has been little golf played by the southern Hackers due to the rain and course closures … The Bluffs have received 8” of rain over the last 7 days!!…not a good thing for relatively flat courses. As of now the weather “guessers” are predicting sunny and warmer weather for the upcoming week so we all are hopeful for Tuesday tee times.
1-23-24 FINALLY we had a typical Florida winter day…temps in mid 70’s and sunny and we all really enjoyed the day. The points money was spread around and the rabbit game came down to the last hole. I will say that Eddie O didn’t miss a beat even though it was his first day back from hip replacement surgery.
2-6-24 It was a sunny and windy day today on the course and Mark (Line Drive) Keck was amazing and not because of his cart driving abilities. On the par 4 #12 hole, his drive was pin high to the left of the green leaving him with a short chip OVER a sand trap...and HE DID IT!!! I never saw him hit a iron up in the air. No biridie for Mark (I did't say he got it close) but he did par it.
2-10-24 Today was a beautiful Saturday morning…NO FOG…sunny and warm and Ron Doren took full advantage of the conditions…He shot 79 which is 2 strokes under his age and also won a CTP. Ron was the king of the beer table after the round.
2-27-24 I'm sorry that I missed golf today (was drinking with Bill Griffiths and John Russell in Sarasota). Hap Miller put on quite the show shooting 79 (he will be 81 next month). Ned Millward also was feeling the love shooting 87....one of his best in a long time. Not to be out done, Ed Over shot 89...his best since his hip surgery. I understand that at the beer table they enjoy a delicious meal of rabbit stew served up by the Over/Kane team.
3-19-24 The Rabbit Game is alive and well in SWF. I will admit that the team of Kane/Over gave Bush/Millward a whoopin' on Saturday but we returned to favor today largely in part to Ned's play. Thanks to him we had the rabbit stew 4 to 1 but more importantly, Ned shot and 87 winning points at +8 and two CTPs (Eddie O had the other 2 CTPs). The beer was really good!
3-26-24 Today was a great day for golf (sunny and mid 80's) and Ned's last round before returning home...which called for an extra round of beer. It should be noted that he enjoyed a meal of sushi.
on returning to Port Charlotte. On the rabbit front, Kane/Eddie O enjoyed
the stew served up by Hap/Cousin Eddie.
4-2-24 Today was my last day of golf for the season since Rita and I are returning
to PA in a couple of days. Mark Keck made it a memorable one since he
decided to start hitting the ball in the air and shot 93 winning points at a +6!
The other amazing happening was Hap Miller was able to finish all 18 holes
despite the near 90 degree heat (he won 2 CTPs and shot 86). It was a good day and the beer was
flowing. Hope to see everyone in October for the new season...enjoy your summer.
